How to use oír in the present
The present of oír is irregular: oigo, oyes, oye, oímos, oyen. Note the g in the yo form and the y in three others. No te oigo is essential on bad phone calls, and ¿me oyes? checks that the connection works. The form oye doubles as the very common ¡oye! to get someone's attention. Oímos keeps an accent to show that the o and the í are separate syllables.
