How oír conjugates
Oír is irregular in the present (oigo, oyes, oye, oímos, oyen) and in the whole present subjunctive (oiga, oigas). Between vowels the i becomes y: oyó and oyeron in the preterite, oyendo in the gerund. Written accents on the í mark separate syllables in oír, oí, oíste, oímos, oía and oído. The future and conditional are regular, built on oir- with no accent: oiré, oiría.

Mistakes to avoid
- Leaving out the g or the y in the present: it is oigo and oyes, not oyo or oes.
- Dropping accents: oír, oí, oímos and oído all need the written accent on the í.
- Using oír for listening on purpose: for music or a talk you choose to listen to, use escuchar. Escucho música, not Oigo música.
