How to use pedir in the preterite
In the preterite, the stem change appears only in the third person: pidió, pidieron. The other forms keep the e: pedí, pediste, pedimos. Use it for specific requests or orders: pedí una pizza, el cliente pidió más tiempo. A very common mistake is pedió; the correct form is pidió. Servir (sirvió) and repetir (repitió) behave the same way in this tense.

Pedimos comida a domicilio porque nadie quería cocinar.
We ordered delivery because nobody wanted to cook.
El paciente pidió una segunda opinión.
The patient asked for a second opinion.
Le pedí ayuda a mi compañero con la presentación.
I asked my coworker for help with the presentation.
