How to use traer in the preterite

The preterite has the stem traj- and no written accents: traje, trajiste, trajo, trajimos, trajeron. Note that the ellos form is trajeron, without an i. Use it for something brought on a specific occasion (¿trajiste el cargador?) and for consequences: la lluvia trajo problemas. Traje is also the noun 'suit', so context tells you which one you are reading.

Examples

  • ¿Trajiste el cargador? Se me olvidó el mío.

Did you bring the charger? I forgot mine.

  • Los clientes trajeron un regalo para todo el equipo.

The clients brought a gift for the whole team.

  • La lluvia trajo problemas en toda la ciudad.

The rain caused problems all over the city.
