How to use venir in the preterite

The preterite of venir uses the stem vin-: vine, viniste, vino, vinimos, vinieron, with no written accents. Note the change from e to i in every form. Use it for completed visits and arrivals: "Vino a verme ayer." "¿A qué viniste?" asks what someone came for. Do not confuse vino (he came) with vino (wine); context always makes it clear. Forms like "venió" are common learner errors.
