How to use venir in the present

The present of venir has the yo form vengo and the e→ie change in vienes, viene, vienen. Nosotros is regular: venimos. Use it for coming toward the speaker, for scheduled visits ("Mi hermana viene el sábado") and for origin ("Vengo de una reunión"). "La semana que viene" is a very common way to say "next week." Be careful with direction: Spanish uses venir only when the movement is toward the speaker's location.

Examples

  • Vengo de la oficina del abogado.

I'm coming from the lawyer's office.

  • ¿Te viene bien el martes a las diez?

Does Tuesday at ten work for you?

  • La semana que viene empiezan las vacaciones.

    Vacation starts next week.
