How to use aceptar in the conditional

The conditional is regular: aceptaría, aceptarías, aceptaríamos, aceptarían. Use it for advice (yo no aceptaría esas condiciones), hypotheticals and polite negotiation: aceptaríamos si incluyeran el mantenimiento. ¿Aceptaría usted...? is a courteous way to propose something to a client or partner without sounding pushy. With si and the imperfect subjunctive, it builds unreal conditions: si me pagaran el doble, aceptaría. It also reports earlier decisions: dijo que aceptaría el puesto. The endings attach to the full infinitive aceptar-, so the forms are easy to build.

Examples

  • Yo no aceptaría esas condiciones sin hablar con un abogado.

I wouldn't accept those terms without talking to a lawyer.

  • ¿Aceptaría usted una entrega parcial esta semana?

Would you accept a partial delivery this week?

  • Aceptaríamos la oferta si incluyera el mantenimiento.

We'd accept the offer if it included maintenance.
