How to use comprender in the conditional
The conditional is regular: comprendería, comprenderías, comprenderíamos, comprenderían. It is often used in empathetic statements: comprendería que no quisieras venir. It also appears in hypotheticals (si leyeras su carta, comprenderías) and reported speech: pensé que lo comprenderías. It is a gentle, polite way to show understanding. The endings attach to the full infinitive comprender-, with no changes. Comprendería perfectamente is a useful formula for showing empathy in formal emails, for example when a client has to cancel at the last minute.
