How to use convertir in the preterite
In the preterite, the third-person forms change e to i: convirtió, convirtieron. The others keep the e: convertí, convertiste, convertimos. Use it for completed transformations: se convirtió en el líder del equipo, convirtieron la fábrica en departamentos. Convertió is a common mistake; the correct form is convirtió. The same i appears in the gerund convirtiendo and in the imperfect subjunctive convirtiera. The other forms carry no stem change, and convertí and convirtió both need a written accent on the last syllable.
