How to use elegir in the conditional

The conditional is regular: elegiría, elegirías, elegiría, elegiríamos, elegirían. ¿Qué elegirías tú? is a natural way to ask for advice. It also expresses preferences in hypotheticals: Si pudiera, elegiría trabajar desde casa. In surveys, ¿A quién elegiría? is a common question form. There is no stem change and no j in the conditional, because the endings attach to the infinitive.

Examples

  • Si pudiera, elegiría trabajar desde casa dos días.

If I could, I'd choose to work from home two days a week.

  • Yo elegiría el proveedor más barato, pero con buena garantía.

I'd choose the cheapest supplier, but with a good warranty.

  • ¿A quién elegirían como representante del equipo?
