How to use encontrar in the imperfect
The imperfect of encontrar is regular: encontraba, encontrabas, encontraba, encontrábamos, encontraban. Use it for repeated finding ("Siempre encontraba algo nuevo") and states: "Se encontraba muy cansado" (he was feeling very tired). In stories, it describes the condition of a place: "La oficina se encontraba vacía." It is also the tense for how someone was feeling as background: "No me encontraba bien, así que me fui temprano."
