How to use pensar in the conditional

The conditional of pensar is regular: pensaría, pensarías, pensaría, pensaríamos, pensarían. Use it for hypotheticals and reported thoughts: "¿Quién pensaría que...?" means "Who would have thought...?" It also softens opinions: "Yo pensaría dos veces antes de firmar." It is a natural way to give careful advice to a colleague or friend.

Examples

  • Yo lo pensaría dos veces antes de firmar.

    I'd think twice before signing.

  • ¿Quién pensaría que íbamos a terminar antes?

Who would have thought we would finish early?

  • Si supiera la verdad, pensaría diferente.

If he knew the truth, he would think differently.
