How to use pensar in the imperfect
The imperfect of pensar is regular: pensaba, pensabas, pensaba, pensábamos, pensaban. It describes past opinions and plans that may not have happened: "Pensaba llamarte" (I was going to call you). It is also a softer way to share a current plan: "Pensaba salir temprano hoy." This use comes up often when asking for permission at work.

Pensaba salir un poco antes hoy, si no hay problema.
I was thinking of leaving a little early today, if that's OK.
Antes pensaba que la contabilidad era aburrida.
I used to think accounting was boring.
¿En qué pensabas? Te veías preocupado.
What were you thinking about? You looked worried.
