How to use recibir in the conditional

The conditional is regular: recibiría, recibirías, recibiríamos, recibirían. Use it for hypotheticals (con ese plan recibirías más beneficios), reported speech (dijeron que recibiríamos el pago el lunes) and polite statements. It often appears when comparing offers or explaining the consequences of a choice. In polite questions, ¿recibiría usted a mi colega mañana? asks whether someone would be willing to see a person. As with the future, the endings simply attach to the full infinitive recibir-, so there are no stem or spelling surprises in this tense.

Examples

  • Con el plan anual, recibirías dos meses gratis.

With the annual plan, you'd get two months free.

  • Nos dijeron que recibiríamos el pago el lunes.

They told us we'd get paid on Monday.

  • Si cambiaras de banco, recibirías mejores tasas.

If you switched banks, you'd get better rates.
