How to use pagar in the conditional
The conditional is regular: pagaría, pagarías, pagaría, pagaríamos, pagarían. Use it for hypotheticals about prices (¿Cuánto pagarías por...?) and for reported promises (Dijo que pagaría el lunes). It also works in negotiations as a softer offer: Pagaríamos la mitad por adelantado, We would pay half up front. Because it sounds tentative, it leaves room for the other side to respond. As advice, Yo no pagaría tanto is a common way to warn a friend against overpaying.
Examples
Pagaríamos la mitad por adelantado y el resto a la entrega.
We would pay half up front and the rest on delivery.
Me dijo que me pagaría el lunes, pero no lo hizo.
He told me he would pay me on Monday, but he didn't.
Yo no pagaría tanto por un teléfono.
I wouldn't pay that much for a phone.
