How to use recordar in the imperfect

The imperfect is regular: recordaba, recordabas, recordábamos, recordaban. It describes memories someone had over a period of time or as background, such as what an older relative used to remember. No recordaba means you could not remember at that point in the past, while no recordé focuses on a single moment of forgetting. The nosotros form recordábamos carries an accent.

Examples

  • Mi abuelo recordaba cada detalle de su infancia en el pueblo.

My grandfather remembered every detail of his childhood in the village.

  • No recordaba si había cerrado la puerta con llave.
