How to use seguir in the conditional

The conditional of seguir is regular: seguiría, seguirías, seguiría, seguiríamos, seguirían. It is used for hypotheticals ("Si pudiera, seguiría estudiando") and advice: "Yo seguiría con el proveedor actual." In negotiations, "¿Seguiría en pie la oferta?" asks if an offer still stands. In reported speech, it carries a past promise forward: "Dijo que seguiría ayudándonos." Like the future, it uses the full infinitive as the stem and has no stem change.

Examples

  • Yo seguiría con el proveedor actual.

I'd stay with the current supplier.

  • ¿Seguiría en pie la oferta si firmamos en enero?

Would the offer still stand if we sign in January?

  • Si tuviera tiempo, seguiría tomando clases de francés.

If I had time, I'd keep taking French classes.
