How to use seguir in the present

The present of seguir changes e to i in all forms except nosotros: sigo, sigues, sigue, seguimos, siguen. The yo form also drops the u: sigo. With a gerund, it means "to still be doing": "Sigue lloviendo." It also means "to follow," as with directions or on social media: "Te sigo en Instagram." In conversation, "¿Sigues ahí?" checks if someone is still on the line.

Examples

  • Sigue lloviendo, mejor esperamos.

    It's still raining, let's wait.

  • ¿Sigues ahí? Se cortó la llamada.

Are you still there? The call dropped.

  • Te sigo en LinkedIn desde hace años.

I've followed you on LinkedIn for years.
