How to use trabajar in the conditional

The conditional (trabajaría, trabajarías, trabajaríamos, trabajarían) is regular. It is the natural tense for hypothetical jobs and choices, as in yo trabajaría en otra ciudad si pagaran mejor, and for softening a request: ¿trabajarías conmigo en este proyecto? sounds more polite than the present. It often pairs with si plus the imperfect subjunctive. It can also express a guess about the past: trabajaría hasta tarde means 'he must have worked late'.

Examples

  • Si pudiera, trabajaría solo cuatro días a la semana.

If I could, I'd work only four days a week.

  • ¿Trabajarías conmigo en la propuesta para el cliente?

Would you work with me on the proposal for the client?

  • Con un buen equipo, trabajaríamos mucho más rápido.

With a good team, we'd work much faster.
