How to use trabajar in the imperfect
In the imperfect (trabajaba, trabajabas, trabajábamos, trabajaban), trabajar sets the scene: where someone used to work, or what they were doing when something else happened. Cuando trabajaba en el banco, conocí a mi esposa presents the job as background and the meeting as the event. The nosotros form trabajábamos carries a written accent. It is also the tense for describing past working conditions: trabajábamos sin aire acondicionado.

When I worked at the bank, I left every day at six.

Trabajábamos sin presión hasta que llegó el nuevo gerente.
