How to use volver in the imperfect
The imperfect of volver is regular: volvía, volvías, volvía, volvíamos, volvían. Use it for past habits ("Volvía a casa caminando") and for background in a story: "Volvía del trabajo cuando vi el accidente." There is no stem change in this tense. Every form carries a written accent on the í.

Siempre volvíamos con regalos para todos.

Los pacientes volvían cada mes para revisión.
